Main Duties of Condition Monitoring Technicians (CMT) 



  • Condition monitoring work will be mostly site based to carry out the condition monitoring of the assets at respective Electricity Distribution substations. The scope covers all Electricity distribution Substations located within the state of Qatar and/or under the jurisdiction of KAHRAMAA. It also includes o􀆯ice-based work (at KAHRAMAA building / premises) to prepare reports, update records etc. The Condition Monitoring Technician deputed daily by the Contractor at EDP (Maintenance Planning & Condition Monitoring) Section in the KAHRAMAA’s Electricity Distribution Department shall carry out all assigned works related to Condition Monitoring. 

    The duties to be performed by the Condition Monitoring Technician (CMT) shall include but not limited to the following:
  • a].Become familiar with the Electricity Distribution Network.
  • b].Become familiar with Condition Monitoring techniques for Substation and OverheadLines (OHL).
  • c].To conduct site visits and to carry out non-intrusive condition monitoring of the assets (inlive condition), collect data and prepare reports for Electricity           Distribution Sub Stations. Following condition monitoring activity shall be performed as follows:
  •                       • Partial Discharge (PD) measurement of MV Indoor Switchgears (Vacuum Type and Oil type), Ring Main Units (SF6 Type and Oil Type), Electricity                               distribution Transformer HV and LV Cable boxes,
  •                      • PD Localization to identify the source.
  •                      • Distinguish PD from External noise
  •                      • Infrared (IR) Thermography of MV Switchgears, RMUs, Feeder Pillar, Electricity distribution Transformers and OHL
  •                      • Oil Sampling (as per IEC 60475) from electricity distribution transformers.
  •                      • Visual inspection of all assets.
  • d]. Techniques used for PD measurement shall be Transient Earth Voltage (TEV), Ultrasonic / Acoustic, HFCT, Corona discharge
  • e].To use the following instruments during condition monitoring:
  •                            •UltraTEV plus, UltraTEV Locator and UltraTEV Monitor (Mfg. : EA Technology)
  •                            •HVPD PDS Air (Mfg. : HVPD)
  •                            •IPEC PD-SGS and IPEC PD-SG1 (Mfg. : IPEC)
  •                            •ULD-40
  •                            • IR Cameras
  • f].Collect oil samples for DGA / Furan / Oil quality testing from Distribution Transformers.
  • g].Keep a record of all resources required for Condition Monitoring work such as availability of Instruments, Calibration validity etc...
  • h].Keep a record of work prioritization for the condition monitoring work.
  • i].Input records of condition monitoring activity and equipment performance in the various soft-wares applications (Substations Database, e-terra Asset care (ETAC), JDEdwards ERP suite (JDE), MS Excel) to keep the history up to date.
  • j].Assist in Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reports as per KAHRAMAA formats and directions
  • k].Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual presentations in MS PowerPoint.
  • l].For work at site
  •                       •All works at site shall be in strict compliance with KAHRAMAA Safety rules, KAHRAMAA Code of Practice, System Operation Memorandum and                                 other applicable rules / guidelines and circulars.
  •                       •Shall possess necessary competency and authorization certificate from KAHRAMAA to access and work at substations / sites.
  •                       •Shall obtain necessary safety documents for work at site.
  • m].For O􀆯ice work: Shall comply with all KAHRAMAA rules and regulations and maintain a proper decorum at Office.
  •  n].Perform other related duties as advised by KAHRAMAA Engineers
